The Coastal Environment Centre is located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, beside the shore of Narrabeen Lagoon. The centre is a facility of the Pittwater Council and is a regional community learning centre providing education that encourages the protection, conservation and improvement of our environment, above and below the waterline.

One of the core roles of the CEC is providing informative and fun environmental education to schools. All programs are led by qualified and experienced educators and have been designed to meet curriculum requirements, while involving students in hands on field investigations. Our programs include:

  • Pre-school incursions
  • Primary School Our Coast excursions
  • High School Science & Geography fieldtrips
  • University & TAFE lectures and fieldtrips

We also offer an extensive community program of events, guided walks, workshops and our very popular School Holiday Activities. The original building built in 1991 is being progressively retrofitted as a community sustainable living demonstration site. The aim is to showcase integrated and sustainable energy, water and waste management initiatives to local residents and businesses.
